Dr. Carl H. Friebel, Jr. became superintendent of Harrison County Schools in August, 2000. He began his career in education in 1968 as a special education teacher. Prior to being named superintendent, he had central office responsibilities for special education and federal programs, and planning, research and evaluation. Dr. Friebel received his undergraduate degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, and spent his junior year at the University of the Americas in Mexico City. He completed teacher certification studies at Glenville State College, and has also earned graduate hours from Trenton State University (now The College of New Jersey), Temple University, and the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies (now Marshall University Graduate College). He earned both his master’s degree and doctorate from West Virginia University where he also serves as an adjunct professor. Dr. Friebel serves on the Board of Directors of the Harrison County United Way, Harrison County Chamber of Commerce, and Regional Education Service Agency VII.   He is also a member of the Board of Governors at Fairmont State University, the Visiting Committee for the College of Human Resources and Education at West Virginia University, and is chairman of the administrative council of United Technical Center. He holds membership in the American Association of School Administrators, Phi Delta Kappa, Kappa Delta Pi and the West Virginia Association of School Administrators on which he serves on the executive committee. Dr. Friebel and his wife, Rita, reside at Maple Lake near Bridgeport, WV.
