Safe Route to School
Harrison County Board of Education and The City of Clarksburg worked together and was recently awarded a Safe Routes to School grant for $ 101,760.00. The grant includes improvements to sides of intersections in close proximity to the city’s schools, safety supplies for crossing areas and classroom education for safe travel to and from school daily for students K-8.

STATE FARM GIVES GRANT
STATE FARM SERVICE LEARNING ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION EXPERIENCE
Harrison County Board of Education has received A grant from State Farm in revitalizing our pond to allow for a Community Environmental Learning Center at Robert C Byrd High School to enhance learning with an outdoor laboratory for creative projects and activities which reinforce the goals and concepts of environmental education. In addition, non-profit groups for youth and adults, senior citizens and Individuals with disabilities and various other environmental purposes will also have access to this lab. Project will begin soon!

The Prevention Resource Officer Program (PRO)
The Harrison County Prevention Resource Officer Program (PRO) is to demonstrate the effectiveness of a comprehensive adult/student approach to prevention for students. The core of the project is the involvement of an adult as a resource/mentor to the students. By acting as a advocate, role model, PRO help students develop the awareness, self- confidence and skills they need to resist drugs and overcome overwhelming obstacles.
Sgt. Sandy Audia works co-operatively with school administrators, staff, students, parents, and the community to identify and address school concerns or problems. She will provide a learning environment through counseling, structured classroom lectures, and distribution of educational resource materials. Enforce the law, conduct investigations as the need arises, and prevent crime by being a visible law enforcement presence in the school.
Liberty High School Prevention Resource Officer Grant
The Prevention Resource Officer is a fully licensed law enforcement officer who is assigned to the local school. The PRO Program is a partnership between the Clarksburg City Police Dept and Harrison County Board of Education. The Prevention Resource Officer is at the school to protect the welfare of students, teachers, and the community. The PRO is also responsible for promoting public safety through education, prevention and intervention. The PRO will work with administrators, staff, students and parents to identify problems and solutions for many law enforcement related issues that come up in the daily functioning of the school. Our goal is to be a resource to the school community to help make it a safe place to learn. The PRO is called upon to teach, enforce, counsel, supervise, and mentor in order to meet this goal. $103,388.00
The Lincoln High School Prevention Resource Officer will advocate community policing standard, educate juveniles about the law, deter crime at Lincoln High School, mentor youth and impact the community with the Justice Assistance Program (JAG).
