Greetings to All Parents:

We have recently posted to the www.allcanread.org site a survey for parents and want to encourage all parents of students in any Harrison County School to log on and complete. This website is also accessible by logging on to http://harcoboe.com. The survey is intended to better inform our school personnel about questions and concerns that parents may have.

Parent input is critical and invited.  We welcome all appropriate and concerned comments. Please assist us in providing needed service to our students, families and communities.

RE:                             ORAL RABIES VACCINATION PROGRAM

With a goal to stop the spread of eastern U.S. strain of raccoon rabies in West Virginia, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, supported by other state and federal agencies- especially the USDA-APHIS-Wildlife Services has implemented a program to immunize wild raccoons for rabies.

Beginning September 7, 2008 the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources and cooperators will be distributing rabies vaccine-containing baits to establish an immune barrier to halt the spread of raccoon strain rabies westward in West Virginia. We anticipate completion by the end of September. The target area covers a wide corridor through the central part of the state, extending from the northern panhandle to the southern coalfields. Counties that will receive baits include: Barbour, Braxton, Brooke, Clay, Doddridge, Fayette, Greenbrier, Hancock, Harrison, Lewis, Marion, Marshall, McDowell, Mercer, Monongalia, Nicholas, Ohio, Raleigh, Randolph, Ritchie, Taylor, Tyler, Upshur, Webster, Wetzel and Wyoming.  We will be using low-flying fixed wing aircraft to distribute the baits.

In order to educate children and their parents about the rabies bait distribution, we would greatly appreciate school systems to copy and send the enclosed information home with students.

Contact your local health department or the West Virginia Oral Rabies Vaccination Program at 1-800-423-1271 if you have any questions regarding the scheduled bait drop. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in this important public health effort.

Dennis G. Zahradnik, Principal

All students must follow the rules for graduation ceremonies in order to participate.

Girls will wear light pastel dresses whose color and print do not show through the graduation gown and white shoes. Dresses must meet county requirements, and girls must wear white shoes. Flip flops are not acceptable! Exception: all girls wearing white graduation gowns must wear white dresses.

Boys will wear dark dress pants, dress shoes, dress shirts, and ties. (NO TENNIS SHOES!)

Any student who has difficulty meeting the dress requirements due to financial problems should see Mrs. Marino.

Any student who is going through the graduation ceremony is REQUIRED to attend the rehearsal (May 28) and the dress rehearsal (awards assembly) on May 29.

Students must be at graduation at 6 p.m. Traffic will be heavy, and parking will be tight. (Car pool if possible!)

Tickets will be give out at the May 28 rehearsal. Each graduate receives 5 tickets. Students needing more tickets will see Mr. Zahradnik or Mrs. Marino AFTER rehearsal.

Everyone who attends graduation must have a ticket. This includes children.

If there are relatives who require special seating, such as a place for a wheel chair or a seat on the gym floor away from the bleachers, the graduate must see Mrs. Marino by May 29. This is for only those persons who are unable to climb the bleachers, not the entire family.

Any action(s) by graduating senior(s) during the senior assembly or graduation which takes away from the dignity of the ceremony will result in the removal of the student(s) or total cancellation of the ceremony. Liberty intends to carry on its rich tradition of decorum for its seniors, their families, and the community
