List of West Virginia Scholarships

WV Business College has scholarships for students interested in their school. Students must have a 3.00 GPA.  See Mrs. Decker for more information.

The Board of Governors Scholarship Program at Fairmont State has applications available.  Seniors who have a 3.5 GPA and an ACT composite of 26 may apply.  See Mrs. Decker for more information.

The American Legion has a book available that lists scholarships, grants and loans that are available to veteran’s dependents.  “Need a Lift” may also be found on line at www.needalift.org

Davis and Elkins College have scholarships available for seniors who are interested in acting or design/technical theatre.  See Mrs. Decker for more information.

WVU College of Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering have scholarships and summer internships available for students who are enrolled in their programs.  For more information contact William Ryan at wrryan@comcast.net

Seniors may apply for the Larry D. and Margaret D. Brown Scholarship.  GPA of 2.5 to 3.2 is required.  Visit www.pacfwv.comfor more information and guidelines.

Bikers for Christ Northern WV chapter have applications for the Daisy Maley Scholarship.  This scholarship is for senior girls who are mothers and are caring for their child and wish to continue their education.

WV JUNIOR COLLEGE AT BRIDGEPORT WILL HOLD THEIR SCHOLARSHIP EXAM  Two scholarships will be awarded.  Call 842-4007 to register.

DRS. PAGANO AND MINIGH SCHOLARSHIP IS NEW THIS YEAR AND IS AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS STUDYING MEDICINE OR DENISTRY.  See Mrs. Decker for an application.  Deadline is May 1st.

Harrison County Genealogical Society will award two $500 scholarships.  Applications are available from Mrs. Decker and must be post marked no later than April 15th.

Applications for the Luvon Greaver Scholarship are now available.  Students must have a 3.00 and be accepted to a four year college.  

 

The Tenney Family Scholarship is now available.  Two $1000 scholarships are available. 

The Charles H. Feoppel Educational Loan Trust has applications available for senior students.   

The WV Federation of Woman’s Club Scholarship applications are now available. 

The P.G. and Ruby Rush Hollandsworth Perpetual Scholarship is now available to students who show financial need and are planning to attend a private college in WV.  Deadline is April 15th.The United Hospital Center Auxiliary has scholarships available for students pursuing a healthcare undergraduate degree. Deadline is May 1st.

The Woodrow Woods Education Loan offers a 4% low interest loan to eligible students from Harrison County. Applications must be postmarked by May 30th.

Alpha Delta Kappa has scholarships available for seniors pursuing a degree in education. 

The Robert and Wilda Brinkley Scholarship applications are now available for students who live in the Lumberport Attendance area. Applications are to be turned in to Mrs. Decker  by April 20th.

Elanora G. Wylie Scholarship Fund for Nursing — $500 awarded to one undergraduate student who is West Virginia resident and majoring in nursing.

Gustavos B. Capito Fund — $1000 awarded to up to six undergraduate students attending a West Virginia college and majoring in nursing.

Kid's Chance of West Virginia Scholarship — $1000 awarded to up to 13 undergraduate students who are residents of West Virginia.

Nicholas and Mary Agnes Trivillian Memorial Scholarship Fund — $1000 awarded to up to 29 undergraduate and graduate students attending a West Virginia college.

R. Ray Singleton Fund — $1000 awarded to five undergraduate and graduate students attending a West Virginia college.

Ruth Ann Johnson Scholarship — $1000 awarded to up to 50 undergraduate students who are residents of West Virginia.

W. P. Black Scholarship Fund — $1000 awarded to 98-106 undergraduate students who are residents of West Virginia.

Westmoreland Coal Company Fund For Medical Students — $5000 awarded to two undergraduate students who are residents of West Virginia who are studying medicine.

DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

ACADEMY OF LDS DENTISTS SCHOLARSHIP 
The Academy makes this scholarship available to dental students who are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon/LDS) only, regardless of where they completed their undergraduate studies.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office after April.  Contact the Academy at (801) 422-3044 or by email at jeanine_ehat@byu.edu if you need additional information.  Application deadline is early June as set by the Academy.

PHARMACY EDUCATION FINANCIAL PROGRAMS (PEFP) 
AACP invites you to the new and improved "Pharmacy Education Financial Programs (PEFP) website. The free PEFP site allows you to search for scholarship, loan, grant, and awarded programs available for professional and graduate pharmacy students from many institutions including WVU. ADEA/WARNER-LAMBERT PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY SCHOLARSHIPS 
The American Association of Dental Schools and Warner-Lambert Oral Hygiene Products Group sponsor this scholarship to support academic excellence in preventive dentistry.  An award of $2,500 each is granted to 12 dental students.  Candidates must submit the following materials: 1) a completed application; 2) a letter of recommendation from the dean that includes a statement describing both the student's academic record and achievements in preventive dentistry; and 3) a two-page statement prepared by the student describing activities and achievements beyond those required of all enrolled students for graduation in research, community service, or program development as they relate to the area of preventive dentistry.  To request an application or for more information, visit the ADEA website at www.ADEA.org or telephone (202) 667-9433. 

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (AFHPSP)
If you are in dental school, the Air Force Health Professions Scholarship Program can provide tuition assistance for up to four years. Two and three year scholarships are also available. This includes all required fees, expenses, books, and equipment. Also included is a monthly allowance of at least $1,319. DR. CAMILLO ALBERICO SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is awarded to a student in the School of Dentistry's DDS degree program who demonstrates financial need.  Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INSTRUMENT AWARD
Awarded to a first year student after the end of the spring term to help defray instrument costs.  Award is based on academic achievement and financial need.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.  Must file FAFSA by March 1.

AMERICAN DENTAL ASSOCIATION (ADA) DENTAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP
The American Dental Association awards scholarships to qualified second year students who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement.  A minimum 3.0 GPA is required for consideration along with DAT scores, three letters of reference and a typed statement summarizing personal and professional goals.  Questions about this program may be directed to the ADA Endowment and Assistance Funds, (312) 440-2567.  Applications are generally available in February or March and there is a June 1 application deadline.  Must file FAFSA by March 1.

AMERICAN FUND FOR DENTAL HEALTH (AFDH) MINORITY DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP
American Dental Association awards scholarships annually to second year minority students.  Scholarships awards are based on a student's academic record (minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale)  Application deadline is July 31.  Qualified applicant is chosen by the School of Dentistry.

AMERICAN ACADEMY OF IMPLANT DENTISTRY (AAID)
Each year AAID awards four grants nationwide to dental students/dental residents worth $2000 each plus a $500 travel stipend.  Grant funds are intended to provide dental students/residents with the opportunity to be exposed to research related to implant dentistry.  Students are required to make either an oral presentation, a poster presentation, or a table clinic presentation to the AAID Foundations.  For more information contact Dr. David E. ARMED FORCES HEALTH PROFESSIONS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM (AFHPSP)
If you are in dental school, the Armed Forces Health Professions Scholarship Program can provide tuition assistance for up to four years. Two and three year scholarships are also available. This includes all required fees, expenses, books, and equipment. Also included is a monthly allowance of at least $1,900. NORMAN & NATHAN BAKER DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is awarded to African American School of Dentistry Students from West Virginia. Recipients must maintain a "B" average while attending Dentistry School.

WILLIAM R. BUTLER ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship provides annual award to a student based on academic merit.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

DDS CLASS OF 1976 SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awards are made to enrolled dental students completing their second year at the WVU School of Dentistry.  Recipients shall demonstrate academic merit and financial need.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

DR. CLARENCE & MAXINE COTTRILL SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship awards are made to WV residents enrolled in their first, second or third year at the WVU School of Dentistry. Recipients shall demonstrate academic merit and financial need. Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

DR. PATRICK J. FARACE MEMORIAL BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
This endowment shall provide funds for the purchase of textbooks for a third or fourth year dental student in good standing at the WVU School of Dentistry.  Recipients shall demonstrate outstanding ability in dental anatomy, both lecture and laboratory.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

DR. PHILLIP FARLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/CLASS OF 1970
This scholarship provides for students enrolled in the School of Dentistry as a resident or non-resident of West Virginia. Recipients shall demonstrate financial need and be in good academic standing. A student who is a recipient one year is eligible for consideration in any other year.

PIERRE FAUCHARD SCHOLARSHIP
The Pierre Fauchard Academy, an International Honor Dental Organization, offers a scholarship annually to a deserving student in each Dental School.  Students will be selected on the basis of demonstrated leadership.  Financial need will also be considered.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

DR. AND MRS. MOHSSEN AND KAREN GHALICHEBAF CLEFT LIP AND PALATE CLINIC SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
Scholarship awarded on the basis of academic merit and financial need.  Interested students could be asked to write and submit a "statement of personal interest."  Recipients shall be determined by the appropriate officials in the School of Dentistry, in consultation with the Director of the Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic and the Financial Aid Office.  Must the the FAFSA by March 1.

HINMAN SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship funded by the Hinman Dental Society of Atlanta. Typically awards two scholarships at $2000 each per year to deserving students who show financial need.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.

HISPANIC DENTAL ASSOCIATION FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
GlaxoSmithKline and the Hispanic Dental Association Foundation are offering four scholarships of $2,000 each to dental and hygiene students of Hispanic descent. Applications must be received by the Foundation no later than September 1, 2006 and must be submitted in English. You can download the application packet at www.hdassoc.org

SIMON P. HULLIHEN MEMORIAL AWARD
Scholarships are provided to student enrolled in the School of Dentistry. Awards are made by the School of Dentistry.

JAPANESE MEDICAL SOCIETY OF AMERICA, INC.
Scholarships being offered to medical, nursing and dental students who are of Japanese ancestry.  Awards of $1500 to $2500 each will be presented to qualified students based on evaluation of individual merit and need determined by the scholarship committee of the program.  Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office.  Application deadline is March 1.

OTHMAN FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship provides for students enrolled at WVU in the School of Dentistry Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) program. Recipients must demonstrate financial need as determined by the School of Dentistry in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid. A student who is a recipient one year is eligible for consideration in any other year.

RALPH (BUCK) RUTLEDGE SCHOLARSHIP
This scholarship provides for students enrolled at WVU in the School of Dentistry. Recipients shall have demonstrated academic promise and financial need. A student who is a recipient one-year is eligible for consideration in any succeeding year. Recipients shall be determined by the School of Dentistry in consultation with the Office of Financial Aid. Each award will not exceed the equivalent of tuition and fees.

SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS (SDS)
Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students are available to students who demonstrate "exceptional financial need".  These scholarships are scheduled to provide payment of tuition, fees and other reasonable educational costs.  Selection will be made by the Financial Aid Office.  Parental information is required, regardless of dependency status.  Must file the FAFSA, including parental information, by March 1.

SMOOT MEMORIAL BOOK SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship provides funds for the purchase of textbooks or other educational materials for dental students who are from under-represented minority or economically disadvantaged backgrounds.  African American students shall be given first preference.  Second and third consideration shall be given to other under-represented minority students and individuals from economically disadvantaged groups.  Recipients shall demonstrate academic promise and financial need.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.   Must file the FAFSA by March 1.

DR. FRANK STEVENS STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP ENDOWMENT
Scholarship is awarded to a student in the School of Dentistry's DDS degree program who demonstrates financial need.  Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

DRS. YVONNE AND LINDA THORNTON SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
This scholarship awards one $1,000 scholarship to a deserving woman of color who is either a descendent of an American slave or of Native American heritage who has been been accepted into dental school or is a student in their first year with a GPA of 3.5 or higher. The deadline is March 31, 2008. VIRGINIA STREET STUDY CLUB
Provides an annual award to a graduate of a Kanawha County High School.  Financial need and academic merit are considered.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

WEST VIRGINIA RURAL PRIMARY CARE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
Program is funded by the Bureau of Primary Care, Department of Health & Human Services.  Administered locally by the WVU Office of Rural Health to provide stipends to medical, dental, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, physician assistant or clinical psychology students for the time spent in rural areas completing clinical rotations.  Dental students must have completed one month at a rural site.  All students must have completed one year of training in a certified program.  Students must apply and be recommended by one of the WV Rural Health Education Partnership Consortium sites.  For additional information, contact Jacki Masi at WVU Office of Rural Health, PO Box 9003, Morgantown, WV  26506.  Telephone: (304) 293-1783 Email:jmasiraz@wvu.edu

WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY DENTAL SCHOLARSHIPS
Eight scholarships are available; two per class.  Scholarships provide for the payment of tuition and most fees.  Eligible applicants must be enrolled in or admitted to the School of Dentistry and must rank above the fiftieth percentile in their class.  In the case of entering students, distinct professional promise as indicated by performance on the Dental Admissions Test is also used as a criterion for selection.  Scholarships are awarded annually using information (application, transcripts, Dental Admission Test Scores, etc.) on file with the WVU Office of Admissions and Records on or before May 15 of each year.  Continuation beyond the first academic year is dependent upon academic performance.  WV residents receive priority consideration in the selection process.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry.

GERALDINE CORE WILLIS SCHOLARSHIP
Scholarship is awarded annually to a WV resident and graduate of a WV high school.  A minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated financial need is required.  Must file the FAFSA by March 1.  Selection is made by the School of Dentistry. 
 

LOAN OPPORTUNITY

HEALTH PROFESSIONS DENTAL LOAN
The Health Professions Dental Loan Program, which is a source of financial assistance through the federal government, provides loan funds to participating institutions, such as West Virginia University.   These loans are restricted to students who 1) are citizens or nationals of the United States; 2) are enrolled or accepted for enrollment as at least half time students; and 3) demonstrate financial need through filing the FAFSA.  The interest rate is 5% simple interest and loans are repayable to the school over a ten year period beginning twelve months after completion of studies.  Parental information is required, regardless of dependency status. Must complete the FAFSA, including parental information by March 1.

LOANS FOR DISADVANTAGED DENTAL STUDENTS (LDS)
Loans for Disadvantaged Students are available to students who meet the federal definition of "disadvantaged".  The maximum annual award is the cost of attendance (subject to fund availability).  The interest rate is 5% simple interest.  Not interest accrues during the in school period and the 12 month grace period following graduation.  Parental information is required, regardless of dependency status.   Must complete the FAFSA, including parental information by March 1.
