Get Help Paying for College
Worried about paying for college? Scholarships are one way to get help. For example, the Harrison County Student Achievement Scholarship provides one-time grants of $1,000 or $500. Submit an application, which will be scored to determine the scholarship winners. Those with the highest scores receive $1,000.
Graduating Harrison County high school seniors who will attend a college, university or technical school can win a scholarship.
“The Student Achievement Board works to recognize outstanding student potential,” said Wendy Imperial, assistant superintendent of Harrison County Schools and Student Achievement Board member. “We consider academics, leadership, creativity and personal development. In evaluating academics, the review committee considers the degree of difficulty in the student’s class load, as well as grade point average.”
The committee wants to recognize students who are well-rounded, exhibit exceptional qualities and have the potential to become leaders in their selected career field. With this in mind, the committee has established scholarship categories to award students in the fine arts and technical career fields as well as the academic scholarship. If applying, please specify the type of scholarship.
Eligibility Requirements:
1. Be a graduating senior of a Harrison County high school.
2. Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or more.
For more information about the scholarship and to obtain a form, contact your guidance counselor or log on to www.harrisonstudentachieve.org.
Return applications and all supporting material to your high school counselor by March 9. Counselors will review applications and forward them to Mrs. Imperial, Harrison County Schools, for distribution to the selection committee.
Students selected to receive the scholarships will be invited, along with their parents, to a banquet on April 23. Local businesses and individuals donate funds for the scholarships, and many attend the banquet to present their scholarships.
