Education:

MA-Reading (WVU 2006);

MA-Elementary Education K-6 (WVU 2004);  

MA-Counseling (Marshall University 2001). 

Teaching Experience:

2010-Present: 1st Grade Teacher-Lumberport Elementary;   

2008-2010: Title I Teacher-Northview Elementary;                              

2005-2008: 1st Grade Teacher-St. Mary's School                

Certifications: Elementary Education K-6; Reading PK-A; MA + 45

Military Experience:  United States Marine Corps 1988-2001; Served in Operation Desert Storm (Saudi Arabia).

Fun Facts: I enjoy running, biking and skiing.  I also hold certification in group fitness instruction through AFAA (Aerobic Fitness Association of America).

I strive to encourage students to work to their fullest potential and be lifelong learners!!

First Grade Reading Focus

CVC - words that have a consonant vowel consonant, the vowel is short

bat - fed - lip - mom - fun

Consonant Blends - there are blends with r, l, and s - br, cr, sl, fl, st, sp

Diagraphs - letters put together to make a sound - sh, ch, th

CVCe or silent E words - the vowel is long and says its name.
