Cyber Safety - We are All Responsible!

February 24, 2009 was declared Cyber Safety Day in WV by Governor Manchin at the first Cyber Safe Summit that was held at the Clay Center in Charleston, WV.

A Partnership for On-Line Safety was proposed and representatives from various concerned groups joined in.  Among those individuals who have voiced their commitment to this cause are:

**Governor Joe Manchin
**Attorney General Darrell McGraw
**Dr. Steve Paine, State Superintendent of Schools
**B. Keith Fulton, President, Verizon West Virginia
**Cindy Southworth, Safety Net Project Director, The National Network to End Domestic Violence
**Sgt. Christopher Casto, WV State Police, head of Internet Crimes Against Children (ITAC)
**Teri Schroeder, CEO, iSafe.org

We all have a stake in educating and nurturing safe, responsible, and conscientious cyber citizens.  It is through this partnership that we can ensure that our children are prepared to deal with the challenges that they may face online.  As digital learners, our students must be taught and guided on how to use the internet as it was intended, both educationally and socially.
