WI NEWSLETTER Did you know that http://wi59.tripod.com is the internet address for a newsletter published by Roleta Smith Meredith and Judy Daugherty Kimler? Contributors to the newsletter include graduates from all of the Harrison County high schools. A Clarksburg picnic was recently held in Sarasota, Florida and another is in the planning stages to be held in August in Clarksburg! This is a good read for anyone that grew up in Clarksburg.
The WI Class of '62 also has a website...photo submissions welcome

WI FIGHT SONG
WI will shine tonight.
WI will shine.
WI will shine tonight,
All down the line.
They're all dressed up tonight.
Don't they look fine?
When the sun goes down
And the moon comes up
WI will shine

WI ALMA MATER
Washington Irving, hail to you.
In high school years,
through smiles and tears,
Our hearts are true.
And while we sing
the hills will ring
With praises due.
And years from now
we'll still avow
Our friendships true.
Washington Irving, hail to you.
And hail the colors,
our old gold and blue.
We will be true.
Our faith in you will never fail,
Then hail to you,
Washington Irving, hail.

Ode To The Spirit Of
Washington Irving High School
• • • • • • • •
Good bye my friend, I say to thee
Your happy walls seem bare to me.
The spirit ran of blue and gold
But today the silence did unfold.
To your halls, I send regret
But your name, I shant forget.
As we close your doors I lament
We thank you for the memories lent.
And say good bye and be well
For Washington Irving, we hail.

HAIL, WASHINGTON IRVING! - Eighty-one Years on the Hill, is a reminiscence by Carolyn Reynolds Burnside, who taught English at Washington Irving for several years. The book is a compilation of facts and photos dating back to 1914, when WI opened its doors, to the first of thousands of students, and continuing until 1995, when the high school students left to go to Robert C. Byrd High School and the brick building began to house sixth through eighth graders as WI Middle School. |
