Former students reap success with careers in art:

John "Jay" Holyfield class of 1988, own his own fine arts studio in Maryland.  Studio 1. He sells originals and Limited Edition Prints.  His art work is published monthly in DECOR and ESSENCE magazine.  Last year his sold two original pencil renderings to Ophray Winfrey.  His art in not only sold in galleries throughout the United States but also in Europe.

Ramona Pollace class of 1988.  Work for a graphic agency in Washington State as well as having her own business specializing in portrait drawing.

David Wilson class of 1988.  Own Ws own silk-screen business and his art work can be seen in ESSENCE magazine.  He exhibits his work in several galleries in South Caroline where he now calls home.

Carrie King class of 1987. BFA Maryland Institute, College of Art. Lives in San Francisco, CA and has taught Art 1-2, Fashion Illustration, and Advanced Art for eight years at Mt. Eden High School in Hayward, CA. Has also been the the Yearbook Advisor for the last seven years at Mt. Eden High School.

Rachel Callison class of 1986. BFA (cum laude) Illustration and Graphic Design, Ohio University; MLS (Masters in Library Science) University of Pittsburgh. Art/design-wise, has taught html and Web design courses at the University of Pittsburgh and has assisted with the development and maintenance.

Pattie Chambers - Tripunitara

B.S. in Art Education, Ohio University, 1990
Has worked as an arts instructor and arts administrator in Ohio, Colorado, Kentucky and California.   Currently work as an Art Education Consultant for Cultural Initiatives Silicon Valley, San Jose', California

Blair Campbell class of 1991.  Graduate of Columbus School of Art and Design.  Works as a Graphic Design in Columbus, Ohio.

Michael King class of 1992 Graduate of CAC in Detroit.  Designer of Automobile chassis and appliances.

Joshua Olivito class of 1997 . Graduate of Art Institute of Pittsburgh.  Graphic Designer for Giant Eagle Regional Artist for East coast states.

Jennifer Gray class of 1999.  Offered full Art scholarship to Glenville State College.

Greg Stevens - graphic designer for a firm in Pittsburgh.

      Since 1980 -1999 31 students that have graduated from this high school have pursued an art career.  A most impressive number.
Students at Robert C. Byrd are able to take 4 years of art and by. the time they are seniors, they can take an Advanced Placement Studio Art class.  The art students at RCB are not only involved in classroom projects but are also involved in community projects.  These include: Painting decorative trim and art on a 10' x 1O' play house for BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS, a wall mural in the police sub-station at WalMart at Eastpointe, murals at the Harrison County Library, Youth Art Month displays at Huntington Banks lobby and art work for the Long Term Health Care Center in Clarksburg.
