Art I is designed to reinforce and build on knowledge and skills developed by K-8 Instructional Objectives. Experiences in producing two-dementional artworks using a variety of media, techniques, and processes will be provided. Critical thinking skills will be developed through analysis of works both orally and in written form. An understanding of the arts in relations to culture, history, and other disciplines, and careers will be emphasized. |

Art II: 2012

Prerequisite: Art I
Art II objectives extend the students' artistic skills. critical skills, and concept development through concrete experiences creating, reflecting and discussing artworks. The exploration of the arts in the context of cultural and historical parameters will be included. Connections will be examined between visual art and other disciplines. Students will also work on developing portfolios. |

Art III: 2013
Credit: 1 unit
Prerequisite: Art I and Art II
Art III builds on previous skills with a more in-depth approach. Art and cultures will be explored visually, verbally, and in written form. Various themes and purposes of art forms and tier relationship to the total educational process will be examined. Art history, criticism and aesthetics will be studied in relationship to individually selected artworks and will lead to development of a personal philosophy of art. |

Art IV: 2014

Prerequisite: Art III and instructor approval
In Art IV students will develop and clarify their philosophy of art and art making through in-depth advanced explorations with media, techniques, and processes. A portfolio reflecting a broad base of knowledge in the arts and in-depth understanding of personal art forms will be developed and refined. Students will also take part in planning and installing an exhibition of their works. |

Studio Art AP: 2031
Credit: 1 unit
Prerequisite: Art III
Advanced Placement Studio Art is based on a student's submitted art portfolio for evaluation at the end of the school year. The AP Studio Art program sets national standards for performance in the visual arts that contributed to the significant role the arts play in academic environments. The College Board program provides the only national standard for performance in the visual arts that allows students to earn college credit and/or advanced placement while still in high school. The AP program is based on the premise that college-level can be taught successfully to the secondary school students. AP art encourages creative as well as systematic investigation of formal and conceptual issues. It emphasizes making art an ongoing process that involves the student in informed and critical decision-making and develops technical skills and familiarizes students with the functions of the visual elements. The student's art work for AP art should reflect three areas of concern: quality, concentration on a particular visual interest or problem and breadth, the expressive means to the student's art. By the end of the school year, the student will have 40 pieces of completed art work to submit to the national committee for grading. A grade of 3 or higher will give the student college credit. The art work will be submitted in slide form along with 8 original pieces no larger than 16" x 20". Art work will be returned to the student by the middle of the summer along with results. This general choir class is available to any student who desires to develop music reading skills and vocal techniques. |

Concert Choir: 2735

Prerequisite: audition
Concert choir exposes students to all types of music from rock to classics. Music reading and a brief introduction to keyboarding are integral parts of the class. The choir performs during the school year. |

Prerequisite: audition; prior choral experience
These performance groups, which sing and dance, require a great commitment of energy and time for rehearsing and performances. Groups perform a variety of music styles. |

Prerequisite: medium proficiency with instrument
Students practice various techniques and styles in orchestra literature, enabling them to develop musical and technical skills. They may audition for All-State Orchestra. |

Concert Band: 2789

Prerequisite: prior instrumental experience
Students schedule Concert Band for which they play both marching and concert music, participate in after-school practices, march in parades, and perform in concerts. |

Prerequisite: prior instrumental experience
Band students play both marching and concert music. They have evening drills, participate in parades, and perform in concerts. They may audition for All-State Band. |

Percussion Class: 2793

Prerequisite: those who play percussion instruments
All percussion students are require to enroll in this course which deals with percussion technique and theory. The ensemble may perform as a solo group as well as with the band. |

Students play jazz, pop, and rock in numerous performances during the year. |

| Theatre Arts |

Theater I: 4253
Credit: 1 unit
Prerequisite: none
Upon successful completion of Theater I, students will be able to: analyze play texts; identify contemporary styles of theatre/drama and depict characters in them. Students will identify basic properties of technical theatre and demonstrate technical knowledge and skills. They will explore multiple interpretations for production ideas and research how the nondramatic art forms enhance a theatre production. Other areas studied include a variety of cultures and historical periods related to theatre. |

Theater II: 4255

Prerequisite: Theater Arts I
Theatre II students write, perform, and evaluate theatre productions, identify and demonstrate selected historical style of theatre/drama, and perform contemporary and classical characters' parts. Students explain basic properties of technical theatre and apply that knowledge and skill. They develop multiple interpretations for production choices and explain how other art forms enhance a theatre production. Analysis and critique of dramatic performances is required. |

Theater Production: 4245

Prerequisite: Theatre I and audition
Students will explore all areas of stage productions. From this class will be cast most of the roles for theatre department productions. All types of theatre will be produced: musical theatre; drama, and the classics. Participation will also be in the state drama festival. |

Technical Theatre: 4247
Credit: 1 unit
Prerequisite: Theatre, Theatre Production and application with instructor.
Students will explore all areas of technical theatre: set design and construction; costume design and construction; make-up; lighting; sound; publicity; and house management. Students will design, build and tech all RCB productions. See Theatre Page |
