Hours
The library is open at 7:20 in the morning and remains open after school until 3:00.  Students must arrive at the library/media center before 7:30, so that they will have ample time to work.  The media center will be closed during assembly programs.  Therefore, you are welcome to come before or after school, or you may come at any time during the day, if you have the permission of the classroom teacher and have an appropriate pass.  You will probably be coming to the library often with an entire class to do a specific assignment.
Circulation
Most books in the media center circulate for two weeks at a time.  Reference books may be borrowed for short periods of time during the day, and they may be charged out on an overnight basis to be returned before your first period class the following day.  There is really no steadfast rule as to how many books you may have checked out, as long as you return books on time.
Overnight Reserve
Occasionally your teachers will put materials on overnight reserve for you to use.  These materials are shelved at the circulation desk.  They may be checked out any time during the afternoon; they must, however, be returned to the library before your first period class the following day.
Renewals
Books may be renewed for an additional period of time, but the book must be brought to the library and any outstanding fines must be paid.
Fines
The overdue fine on books that circulate for two weeks is 10 cents a day.  The overdue fine on overnight books is twenty-five cents for each day the book is overdue.  A fine on overnight books is not charged for students who have a legitimate absence according to the school attendance policy.  All fines stop when a book is returned.  Students who owe fines will not be permitted to check out additional material until all fines are paid.  At the end of each grading period, reports cards will be held for those students who have obligations to the library/media center.
Overdue Notices
Overdue notices are sent to students periodically, usually through third or fourth period class,   Students should not depend on these notices, but rather should return books on time.
Book Requests
If you wish to read a book that is in circulation, please tell the librarian.  We will be happy to hold it for you when it is returned.
Browsing Books
A nice collection of browsing books which are primarily pictures is kept in the browsing area of the library.  These books may be enjoyed in the library or they may be charged out for short periods of time.
Magazines and Newspapers
The library subscribes to many magazines and several newspapers for your reading pleasure.  Many of the magazines are filed for future use, so all magazines must be used at school.  Newspapers are never charged out of the library.
Vertical File
The vertical file includes a large number of pamphlets and clippings on a wide variety of subjects. Vertical files may be charged out for use during the day.  A subject index to materials in the vertical file is maintained.
  • The library is an attractive place.  Please help us to keep it that way by not EATING, DRINKING, or CHEWING GUM while you are here.  Put materials away neatly and correctly when you have finished with them and push your chair back under the table.
  •  So that all students and teachers may effectively use the library's facilities, an atmosphere of quiet industry should prevail.  A spirit of freedom in using the library tempered by a consideration of the needs of others is encouraged.  Students failing to conform will be asked to leave and may not be permitted to return unless with a class under the supervision of a teacher.
