ARMY JROTC
"Eagle Battalion, Sir"
Color Guard

The Corps of Cadets is responsible for the raising and lowering of the flags each day that school is in session.  The Corps is also called upon to perform a variety of ceremonies in support of the Harrison County community. On September 10, 2005 the cadets performed the opening Color Guard for the Black Heritage Festival and on September 14, 2005 they were invited to Charleston to the State Capitol to perform a special Color Guard for Governor Manchin.

The Color Guard is also responsible for opening all of the Varsity sports home- games at Robert C. Byrd High School.  They also provide Color Guard support for Washington Irving Middle School when requested.

Our Color Guard also assisted with the Patriot’s Day Ceremony at Robert C. Byrd High School on September 8, 2005.  They traditionally perform between 70 and 80 Color Guard presentations a year.

The Color Guard practices prior to each event.  All cadets are invited to join the color guard and there are promotion, travel and award opportunities to members of the Color Guard.  Members of the Color Guard who perform in five or more color guards may be promoted meritoriously to Color Corporal.  They are also authorized to wear a special “White” Color Guard Cord and are awarded the Color Guard Ribbon at the end of the school year. Those cadets who actively participate in ten or more may be promoted to the grade of Cadet Color Sergeant.

Members of the Color Guard are invited to attend a variety of social functions and to meet influential members of the community.  Our Color Guard has met Senators Robert C. Byrd, and John D. Rockefeller, former governor Wise, and Governor Manchin as well as the Mayor, head of the County Board, and influential members of the business and education community.
