MR. LEON E. PILEWSKI

   Mr. Pilewski has been an employee for the Harrison County Board of Education for 30 years and  was the West Virginia Principal of the Year, for 1995-96.    He completed his post secondary education at Salem College and West Virginia University, where he obtained his superintendent's certification.   Mr. Pilewski has also done additional graduate work at WVU and Marshall University.
        Mr. Pilewski taught in the classroom at Salem Junior High, Salem High School and Liberty High School.   He then was appointed to be Assistant Principal at Roosevelt Wilson High School.   In 1989, after ten years as an assistant principal, he assumed the principalship of South Harrison High School.   In 1992, Washington Irving High School needed a new principal and Mr. Pilewski was selected.    Mr. Pilewski guided the smooth transition from W. I. to our modern state of the art facility, Robert C. Byrd High School.
        Mr. Pilewski has served as president of the West Virginia Association of Secondary School Principals, where he initiated the All-State Academic Team Award.   This award is presented, in cooperation with Bank One, to an outstanding graduating seniors in each WV high schools.   He has attended and made presentations at national and state meetings including the 1995 Leaders of Learning Conference and is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission
        Mr. Pilewski and his wife Phyllis are the parents of one daughter, Phylicia.
