"Eagle Battalion, Sir"
Welcome
Welcome to the Robert C. Byrd High School JROTC “Eagle Battalion” Home Page.  We are located in Clarksburg, West Virginia and we are an award winning JROTC Battalion that has been recognized for excellence since our founding in 1993.  Lieutenant Colonel Peter A. Taylor, US Army Retired, is the Senior Army Instructor (SAI), and First Sergeant Robert L. Brownfield, US Army Retired, is our Army Instructor. (AI).  LTC Taylor has been with the program since 1994 and 1SG Brownfield started teaching in the fall of 2005.

Our Battalion is very active.  Our Rifle Team has won the West Virginia State Championship nine times and we have participated in the US National Championships representing our state.  In 2008 the Rifle Team wone the prestegious North American Cup competing against teams in the United States, Mexico and Canada.  Our Color Guard performs an average of 75 Color Guards per year and we have done presentations for both of our US Senators, members of the House of Representatives, the Governor of West Virginia and local civic organizations.  We perform a variety of Community Service projects within the community and we are active with the local American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Clarksburg.  Our cadets will participate in approximately 120 events every school year.

Each year our cadets take a “Staff Ride” to the Civil War battlefields of Antietam or Gettysburg, we attend an annual Summer Camp, and conduct an Officer Candidate School that provides advanced leadership training for potential cadet officers and senior Non-Commissioned Officers. Our cadets will participate in approximately 120 events every school year.
