Today’s & Upcoming Activities:
 
SHMS:
·         Track practice – 3 – 5.
·         Softball practice – 5 – 7.
 
 
SHHS: 
·         Track practice 3:00– 5:00, Softball practice 3:00 – 5:00, Baseball Practice 3:00 – 5:00.
·         Swim Team Pictures at the YMCa on Tuesday 3/16 at 4:10 p.m. Wear your team suit, pants shirt, and jacket if you have one.
·         Flex schedule today.  Class tournaments today.  We will run a regular flex schedule this week – any student in tutoring with a ticket to the class tournaments may show that ticket to their flex teacher to eat first lunch.  The gymnasium will open for spectators at 11:00, tip off each day is scheduled for 11:08.  LOST TICKETS WILL NOT BE REPLACED – IF YOU LOSE YOUR TICKET, YOU MUST PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE.

Academic and Other News: 6-12 IMPORTANT NEWS
 
1.     HS – to create a prom worthy of Another Teen Movie, we need some extra cash.  South Harrison has that chance and you can help by going to Stumpsparty.com, clicking on “Proms Across America”, find WV, then select South Harrison.  You can vote as many times as your clicker fingers will let you.  Help spread the word.  Get your friends and family to help vote, too.  For more information, see Alaina G. or Tasha H.  Now get voting!
2.     HS – Ticket sales for class tournaments in Mr. Lynn’s room.  Cost is $4 for the week.  All students, including players and coaches, must have tickets.  Proceeds will be donated to the United Way!
3.     HS – Congratulations to Robert M., and Terry E. for placing first in their events in the Local Skills/USA Contests at the United Technical Center.  Robert and Terry will be competing at the state level in Beckley on March 19th and 20th
4.     HS – Congratulations to the following members of the All-County Football First Team – Robert M., Tanner B., Dillon B., and Adrean W..  These players need to see Coach Jett to submit their photographs by Friday, March 12th.
5.     HS – The WV State Bar and WV Department of Education are sponsoring a video contest – create a video under the “Righting a Wrong” theme to win a trip to the Greenbrier Resort.  For more information, see http://wvde.state.wv.us/wvstatebar
6.     All – Lost Creek Elementary School is having a Longaberger Tote Bingo on Saturday, March 13th.  If anyone would like to come and help during the program, it would be greatly appreciated.  They are looking for at least six volunteers – please see Mrs. Nosse if you are interested in helping.
7.     HS – Swim team pictures at the YMCA on Tuesday, March 16th at 4:10 pm.  Ware your team suits, tee-shirts, and pants.
8.     HS – Congratulations to the following students, who have been named to the FBI’s list of Hardest Working Students:  Jesse A., Lloyd F., Zackary N., Mary Kate R. Brandon A., Matthew C., Brittany E., Cody L., Rosalyn E., Josiah P. Elizabeth S., Jesse S., Chaz B., Shaun D., Amanda M., and Harlie S.  These students will be recognized at a ceremony at the FBI Center on Thursday, March 25th.  These students should see Mrs. Bedell to pick up paperwork that must be completed to enter the FBI Center – this paperwork must be returned to school by Friday, March 12th.
 
 
Upcoming GEAR-UP Activities:
 
·         Gear-Up Tutoring is offered to high school students on Monday and Wednesday afternoons from 3 – 5 pm  – Take advantage of this resource.
·         Credit Recovery now being offered Monday through Thursday – see Mrs. West or Mrs. Moore for further information.  Students must be registered to participate in this activity.
·         The students going on the Gear-Up college visit / winter fitness trip need to be at school by 7:30 am.  We will be returning by 10 pm.  Dress appropriately!
·         Gear-Up summer camp flyers will be distributed by Mrs. Robinson after first period.  Extras will be in the Gear-Up stacker.  Applications are also available in the Gear-Up office.
 
 
 
·         Don’t forget to check out the website for scholarship and award opportunities!
·         The Burnside and Harrison Co. Achievement Scholarships are due in to Mrs. Robinson by Thursday, March 11th – NO EXCEPTIONS!
 ·       Attention seniors:  A tour of the WV Junior College has been scheduled for Friday, March 12.  The tour will be from 8:30-1:00.  Lunch will be provided.  Please see Mrs. Robinson or Mrs. Pratt to sign up for the tour. 
·         UTC applications for next year are now available in the counselor’s office.  Students who attend UTC this year will complete an application for next year and submit it to the office at UTC.  Students are encouraged to apply early since some programs have very limited space.  See Mrs. Robinson for an application today!!!!
·         This year’s South Harrison Faculty Scholarship application is now available on the school’s website in the Counselor’s Corner.  All Seniors are eligible to apply.  You will need to print the application and submit it to Mrs. Cobb by the April 12th deadline.
·         The Clarksburg League for Service Scholarship applications are now available for seniors.  All seniors are eligible to apply.  Students may obtain a copy from Mrs. Robinson or visit www.clarksburgleagueforservice.org The application deadline is April 2, 2010.
·         Attention all sophomores:  Your parents will be receiving a letter in the mail informing them of a 5-Year Plan Workshop on the same evening as Parent Teacher Conference – March 23, 2010 from 3 – 6 pm.  Please be advised that your 5-Year Plan must be completed BEFORE you will be able to schedule next year’s classes.  Remember that many classes fill up quickly . . . to increase your chances of obtaining your desired schedule, strong encourage your parents to accompany you at this workshop.  The process if brief, painless, and will only take a few minutes.
