Glenville State College is hosting a Criminal Justice Experience Camp from July 20-July 24. The camp is filled with opportunities for students to experience real-life hands-on training and application of crime scene investigation. Junior Volunteer Applications are now available in the counselor’s office. To qualify, a student must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, be at least 14 years old by June 16, be mature and responsible, willing to work, and of good character. The application deadline is June 1.

CCurrent 9th grade student interested in the Project AMPLE Extended Camp this summer needs to see Mrs. Moore or Mrs. Robinson. This is a 2-week residential camp held at Fairmont State during June 21-July 1. The camp focuses on math and science. |

Applications for the Woodrow W. Woods Loan Trust are now available in the counselor’s office. This low-interest loan is available for financially needy seniors planning to pursue ANY type of postsecondary education/training. The application deadline is May 30.

Any senior student with a demonstrated financial need and planning to pursue any type of postsecondary education at a college, university, or vocational/technical school is encouraged to see Mrs. Robinson for information on the Charles H. Foeppel Educational Loan Trust. The applications are for a low interest deferred loan. The application deadline is May 31.

Any junior who plans to attend WV Wesleyan College after graduation is encouraged to see Mrs. Robinson about a full, four-year tuition and fees scholarship. The scholarship competition is only open to juniors. The deadline is June 21. Visit www.wvmetronews.com and click on the “Apply Now” button.

Reminder about registering for the Selective Service. Under federal law, virtually all men must register with the Selective Service within 30 days of their 18th birthday. However, the Selective Service System now accepts early submission of registration information by 17 year old men. The agency holds their registration information and automatically enters theirdata into the system when they turn 18. PLEASE VISITWWW.SSS.GOV TO REGISTER ONLINE.

Any senior who is applying for the Harrison County Student Achievement Scholarship must submit their applications to Mrs. Robinson upon completion. The applications will then be delivered to the county office.

The Courageous Persuaders Scholarship is open to high school students nationwide. You must create a 30-second TV commercial targeted at middle school students to warn them about the dangers of underage drinking. You do not have to be taking a video production course to be eligible. In addition to a scholarship award, the winning team will also have their commercial aired on television. The ACT Top of the Mountain program recognizes outstanding West Virginia high school seniors for academic excellence in the Mountain State as measured by their academic records and ACT scores.

Attention sophomores: If you have talent in writing, dancing, singing, acting, digital media art, painting or drawing, or in playing an instrument and would like to spend three weeks on a college campus FREE, check with the counselor or your teacher about the Governor’s School for the Arts.

The Johnson Scholarships recognize leadership and academic accomplishment and offer awards from half to full tuition and room and board. The J. It allows students and parents to calculate eligibility for federal financial aid. It also reduces the time it takes to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the qualifying form for all federal financial aid.

Job Corps helps economically disadvantaged youth ages 16-24 become responsible, employable, and productive citizens by providing them with opportunities to develop vocational, educational, and social skills needed to succeed. The program, funded by the Department of Labor, provides students with free housing, meals, and health care. Students also receive a living stipend while they learn and receive bonuses after graduation. Job Corps is a residential training and education center for students who have either already completed their high school education and are in need of skills training or for those students who are in need of both educational and vocational training.
