Attention ALL 8th Graders!
CCAWV County Government Essay Contest
Please consider entering this contest! You could receive $250! Read on:
1. The contest is open to all 8th grade students who are enrolled in a West Virginia public or private school.
2. The contest deadline is April 13, 2012.
3. Each essay is limited to a maximum of 500 and must address the following question:
“How does my county government make life better for me?”
The essay must address specifically the county government of the county in which the student resides.
4. Each student is limited to one entry.
5. All entries must contain the student’s name, mailing address, email address,
sponsoring teacher’s name and the county name in which the essay is about.
6. All emailed entries must be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format and must
be submitted by the student’s teacher.
7. All entries must be postmarked by April 13, 2012 and mailed to:
2012 County Government Essay Contest, County Commissioners’ Association WV,
2309 Washington Street, East, Charleston, WV 25311
or emailed to info@ccawv.org prior to midnight on April 13, 2012.
8. The winning essay will be announced by April 27, 2012.
9. The winning student will receive $250, and the teacher of the student
who submitted the winning essay will receive $250 to be used for classroom activities.
10.The winning student and his/her teacher will be invited to a County Commissioners
meeting in their home county to receive their award.
11.The winning essay will be published in Commissioners’ Corner, the CCAWV’s official publication,
and posted on the CCAWV website, (www.ccawv.org).
12.Essays will be judged on the following criteria: understanding of the role of county government;
grammar and spelling; clarity and organization of thought.
13.By entering the contest, each student and teacher agrees to allow his/her name
to be used in a news release announcing the contest winner in the event that their
essay is selected as the winning essay. In addition, the student and/or teacher agree
to allow their photograph to be published in the Commissioners’ Corner newsletter
and on the CCAWV Web site.
14.Entries will not be returned
