

Welcome to Mrs. Kendall's English Class
Welcome to 8th Grade English! This year will be both challenging and exciting. English 8 focuses on continually developing student's writing skills as well as learning several different genres of writing. We will study many different topics during the year as well as examine many different types of text. ATTENTION ALL 8TH GRADE PARENTS/GUARDIANS: MIDTERM IS THIS FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21st. STUDENTS WILL CHANGE EXPLORATORIES AND FOCUS CLASSES ON MONDAY, OCTOBER 24th.
PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES WILL BE HELD ON WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 26th FROM 4:00-7:00 pm. ALL PARENTS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND. All English 8 Classes: For English 8, each student will have a homework assignment given on Monday and due on Friday. The assignment will be described in detail on a paper that your child will bring home at the beginning of each week. It usually will be a composition paper covering various writing skills that we are studying in class. The cumulative grades of the homework papers will count as part of the student's English grade. The student must hand in the directions sheet, an edited scratch copy signed by an adult, and a well-written final copy.
English 8 - Students will be learning about the Holocaust in class this 6 weeks. We will hear testimony from survivors, examine photographs, read novels, and research this historical event. Focus: West Virginia Scavenger Hunt
Absences and Make-up Work: If you are absent from class, you are responsible for coming in to get your make-up work. As per Harrison County Policy 4502.7 Any student absent from school shall be given the opportunity to complete or make up all work missed. The student will be given a day for each absent day to make up assignments, unless the student had prior knowledge of a test, quiz, report, homework, etc., due date prior to the absence. In that event, the student would be required to fulfill those obligations on the day of his/her return to school.
No Unexcused Late Work Will Be Accepted.
