Hello and welcome to the 2007-08 school year. I trust that everyone had a relaxing and enjoyable summer and is enthusiastic about returning to his/her classrooms to begin another exciting year.
This summer R/ELA teachers from across the county had the opportunity to attend many summer institutes and other professional development sessions. I was so excited to see the enthusiasm and to hear the positive comments regarding these opportunities. I hope that everyone found much useful information and many helpful strategies to take back to his/her classrooms to use.
This year we will be implementing the newly adopted reading core programs for elementary students and the new reading and literature series for secondary reading and English students. The committees worked very hard last year, spending many hours looking through the different choices and selecting the best Scientifically Based Reading Reasearched reading and literature programs for Harrison County Students. They deserve our gratitude and respect.
Speaking of textbook adoptions, we will be entering into another year of adoptions. Our grammar, handwriting, spelling, and English electives are all up for adoption in 2008-09, so this year, the adoption process will begin again, which means that I will need volunteers to serve on the textbook adoption committees. I will need one representative from each school. I would ask that the committee members who served last year step aside and give others a chance to serve first. If no one else is interested, I would be thrilled to have those same committee members return.
