Mapping of the Content Standards for Science
This mapping has been designed to make the science content standards more manageable and to help alleviate problems associated with transient students between schools. Click below to view the PDF versions of the mapping documents.
New Science Textbooks
Last year new science textbooks were adopted for grades pre kindergarten through 12. The new programs have plenty of hands-on activities, higher level thinking skills, and different types of assessment. Pre K teachers selected Creative Curriculum to use with science and social studies. Texts and/or programs from Harcourt Publishers were purchased for elementary school with supply kits for experiments and leveled readers to help all students learn science.
In our middle schools, students will use texts from Glencoe and Prentice Hall Publishers. Teachers on the middle school curriculum and adoption committee developed curriculum mapping for grades 6 through 8. This mapping will help teachers correlate the two texts enabling the best learning to take place.
On the high school level, several publishers will provide texts for the many different science courses offered. The teachers selected the technology option over paper moving our students into the new century. Students in the class of 2008 and beyond will need four science credits to graduate if they chose the professional pathway.
