What's Happening?

Reading

The comprehension questions on weekly tests need to be written in complete sentence answers.  Students need to start sentences with capital letters and end with appropriate punctuation marks.

Using the question words to formulate a good answer is the best way to write a good answer sentence.

Spelling

Each week we practice good manuscript handwriting of our spelling list words.

Proper letter size, form, and spacing are a part of good spelling too.

Sentence dictation with usage of weekly words is a part of the regular spelling assessment.

Be a Mental Math Whiz!

We are working at mastery of basic addition and subtraction facts.  We will learn many different strategies to aid in the learning process.  Students need to know doubles facts from 0 - 12, near doubles facts, and fact families.  Practice skip counting by 2's, 3's, 5's, and 10's both forward and backward for quick mathematical thinking.

                                                                                Example:

Fact family for 2, 8, 10

2 + 8 = 10

8 + 2 = 10

10 - 2 = 8

10 - 8 = 2

  Ready for SUMMER

As the school year ends, remember to read something for practice every day.  At least fifteen minutes of reading is a good start.  Local libraries are available with special children's programs and plenty of free reading materials over the summer vacation.
