The person chosen as the May Employee of the Month is well known at his school as a person of good character who will do all he can to help his students succeed. Lt. Col. Peter Taylor was recognized for this honor at the June 15 Board of Education meeting.
Lt. Col. Taylor is the long-time, senior army instructor at Robert C. Byrd High School. He was nominated by a freshman student who believes the lieutenant colonel goes above and beyond his duties as an army instructor to help his students become better citizens.
The nominator cited several examples of Lt. Col. Taylor’s involvement, including devising multiple fund-raisers for the cadet fund. He also noted the instructor’s ability to create a comfortable environment in which the students can more readily learn. In this atmosphere, he’s also known to use creative ways reach his students and to get his point across.
And the student said the lieutenant colonel is also available to give the cadets personal counsel when needed, which can lead them to becoming better students, as well as better citizens.
The board congratulated Taylor for being a teacher who has such a positive impact on his students. The commended him for doing such an outstanding job and for being chosen the May Employee of the Month. He was presented with a number of gifts, including a plaque from MCM Business Systems, a blanket from Doug Gray Insurance Agency, a gift bag, and dinner from Philip’s Pasta Cucina. He is shown with school board member Charles Reider.
