A longtime local business owner and community leader, Michael L. "Mike" Queen originally took his oath of office as a member of the Harrison County Board of Education on July 1, 2006. In May of 2010, he was re-elected to a second four-year term.
Mike is the son of Fray Queen of East View and Rosalyn Queen Alonso of Bridgeport. He has a twin brother, Marty Queen of East View, and a younger set of twin sisters, Mrs. Andy "Lisa" Lang of Bridgeport and Leslie Queen of Quiet Dell.
Mike is a lifelong resident of Harrison County having been educated in the Harrison County school system. He is a 1981 graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School. He is also a graduate of Marshall University where he served as student body president; a member of the Elizabeth McDowell Lewis College of Business Board of Governors and the president of the Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity.
In Harrison County, Mike volunteers on numerous boards and commissions. He is a member of the East View Lions Club, the Harrison County Farm Bureau, the Clarksburg Elks Lodge Youth Committee, the Shinnston Moose Lodge, the Knights of Columbus, the Mens' Auxiliary of VFW Post 573, the RW/WI/RCB Alumni & Friends Foundation and the Harrison County Photography Club.
As a school board member he sits on the school system's Technology Committee and the WVU Extension Service.
Mike is the former owner and publisher of The Shinnston News & Harrison County Journal, a weekly newspaper. In 1996, the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce named his newspaper the "Small Business of the Year".
From 1984-86, Mike served on the West Virginia Board of Regents. In 1989 at the age of 26, he was elected to the West Virginia legislature - the youngest legislator ever elected to represent Harrison County in the House of Delegates.
From 1999 to June of 2006, Mike served as a member and chairman of the United Technical Center's Local School Improvement Council. In 2001, then Governor Cecil Underwood named him a member of the West Virginia School to Work Council.
Mike is the father of one son, Ben, who is a current student at Bridgeport High School.
