Welcome to our School
Big Elm Elementary was opened in 1993 using West Virginia School Building Authority funds. The school board bought thirty-five acres of land to build the new school. Big Elm is all on one level and is air-conditioned.
The school has three pre-school classrooms on site and one off-site location. There are five kindergarten classrooms, five first grade classrooms, five second grade classrooms, five third grade classrooms, four fourth grade classrooms, and four fifth grade classrooms.
Special education services are provided for students in all grade levels. Speech and language services, as well as occupational and physical therapy, are also provided within the realm of special education.
Big Elm Elementary also provides instruction in physical education, library science, music, art, and computer. Children attend a different specialized class each day of the week.
Over the years, Big Elm has kept up with the times and added new technology as an ongoing project. A new and additional computer lab was added last year to give children and teachers additional access to computers. In this same room is the distance learning lab, where children can connect to other schools and various virtual field trips to add to their course offerings at Big Elm. The computer teaching classroom was also updated this year with brand new computers and an additional smart board. A mobile laptop lab is also being added this year, to provide more technology access for the students. Each teacher will have a presentation station in their classroom, as well as an Apple I-Touch lab to share within the building. Big Elm will continue to add technology to benefit the students.
With a combination of wonderful children, involved parents, and dedicated teachers and staff, Big Elm Elementary is truly
“A Great Place to Grow!”
