Mrs. Shields' First Grade
Literacy Work Stations - For the next couple of weeks the children will be introduced to the Literacy Work Stations that we will be using for the rest of the year. The Literacy Work Stations that we will use in our classroom are: 1. The Library Station; 2. The Big Book Station; 3. The Spelling Station; 4. The Poetry Station; 5. The Drama Station; 6. The Computer Station; 7. The Puzzels and Games Station; 8. The ABC Word Work Station;9. The Writing Station; 10. The Listening Station. It is important that the children know exactly what is expected at each station, and what options they have there. The children will be working at these stations while I teach Reading to small groups. They will get to work at two stations each day. The children will work with a partner, and the pairs will be rotated around to each station about once a week. You will see - the children love the work stations. At the stations they have the opportunity to read, write, spell, teach each other, practice what they have learned, and much more. Homework - Continue to practice the Kindergarten Review Words that I put in their Take-Home Folders. I will put any additional homework they need to do in the return section of the folders. Please empty the graded papers that I have placed in the keep section. Look over the papers with your child, helping him/her understand anything that was marked wrong. Thanks for playing the math games that I have sent home. They children learn a lot playing the games, much more than when they do work sheets. Please let me know when you play the games. Planning Schedule - 1:40-2:20 Monday - Art Tuesday - Music Wednesday - Gym (Please have your child wear gym shoes) Thursday - Library (Return Library Books) Friday - Computers Keep up the good work, Mrs. Shields
