Speech/Language Therapy is provided to any student at Big Elm who is eligible beginning at the age of three. Services have begun for all students currently enrolled in therapy. Screenings are being conducted to identify children who may need further testing. Guidelines and regulations established by the WV Dept. of Education are followed to determine which children are eligible for services. In addition, Harrison County has established developmental guidelines for speech sound development, based on formal and professionally accepted research, to assist speech pathologists in making eligibility determinations.

Those children who qualify for Speech/Language services will begin treatment as soon as the referral and IEP (Individual Educational Program) process is completed. Any parent who wishes to request a speech/language evaluation for their child may do so by calling the school office. Questions about the speech/language programs at Big Elm may be directed to any of the school’s speech pathologists.
