Welcome to second grade! This is my third year at Johnson Elementary. I have nineteen years of experience, which was mostly spent at Lumberport Elementary. I have previously taught kindergarten, second and fourth grades.
Second graders are a delightful age to teach. I love to teach reading and see students develop into excellent readers. I will use a Balanced Literacy approach to reading. Students will be divided into small groups according to their reading ability, in order to receive the individual instruction needed. When students are not meeting with me, they will be rotating through various learning stations. These include the computer, listening, writing, spelling, word work, overhead, library, and poetry stations. My goal is to instill a passion for books that will be passed on from grade to grade. Please share this joy each evening by reading with your child.
I expect students to develop higher level thinking skills in math and improve their mental math skills. Students will be learning math by using lots of manipulatives and games . Students will be using strategies to improve addition and subtraction skills. Math should be fun and exciting!
I am excited for what this year may bring. I am looking forward to working together with you and your child.
