The mission of Johnson Elementary School is to achieve excellence in education, develop lifelong learners who value themselves and others, encourage students to participate in and contribute to their communities so that they succeed in a constantly changing, diverse, and highly technical world. The mission statement was developed by the staff through much discussion, in part, for our overall Five Year Plan which guides and directs educational progress in our school; the goals, objectives and action steps by which learning is accomplished; emphases on the WV CSOs; teaching strategies and techniques; assessments which drive improvements in education; and the use of technology to help accomplish development of 21st century skills. Achieving excellence in education requires analyses of test results from year to year. This is done during our county Data Days, during which teachers disaggregate test scores to determine where strengths and weaknesses lie. This research identifies our weakest CSOs and identifies where we need to place emphases for the next school year, lists students who need extra assistance to help them improve, and suggests the need to adjust our teaching strategies to improve student achievement. At Johnson, we provide our children with as many educational and learning opportunities as possible to ensure that we reach and help all children with their needs, whether they be academic, social, emotional, or disciplinary. We strive to help them, as they mature, to contribute to their communities and succeed in a changing technical world. Our mission indicates the school’s priority to engage all children, provide enrichment opportunities, focus upon CSOs and 21st century skills, and give guidance and direction. The ultimate goal is that our students move on to successful further education and / or training, fully participating as citizens of their communities, their country, and the world, achieving success as adults and lifelong learners.
