                             Johnson's Music Teacher- Jean Kuhn

Mrs. Kuhn has been a music teacher  at Johnson and Simpson Elementary Schools for almost 20 years.  She taught music  out of state before coming to Harrison County-- in Kanawha County (W.Va.)  ; Ohio, and Maryland. She also was a substitute music teacher in the county before teaching at Simpson Elementary,. "Music has always been a very important part of my life and I love teaching. I love working at Johnson and I look forward to another exciting school year  .

October Edition     Dear Students and Parents:

I am very excited about this new school year. We will be learning about early America; learn to play the Appalachian lap dulcimer and dance to early folk tunes. We have new songbooks that have beautiful accompaniments to our songs. We have electronic books and listening maps and other extra equipment in the classroom.
I will have a student teacher, Nathan Corrothers, from Alderson-Broaddus College, observing morning music classes and he will be here for six weeks and will teach in the classroom later on. He has some exciting ideas about things to do in class and he is anxious to work at Johnson Elementary School.
We are all using music notebooks this year. Students will put all music materials in the folder and later can take it home for all to see.
I have applied for several grants that apply to Prickett’s Fort in Fairmont, W.Va. And we will have the” Wha-Ke-We-nn” Heritage Musicians here at our school on November 7, 2008.   This musical group play early American instruments—the hammered dulcimer; lap dulcimer, fiddle, guitar, and other instruments of early Americans.
Our new books are wonderful. We have full orchestral music; many adult voices on our recordings. The songs areGreat and students seem to enjoy many of them. Happy Halloween and Happy Thanksgiving.
