Children attending the Learning Corner P.R.O.M.I.S.E. are led to develop positive attitudes towards themselves, others, and learning.   Instruction is presented in a holistic manner making learning more relevant to the child, rather than teaching of isolated skills. Through the Learning Corner P.R.O.M.I.S.E after-school students learn skills necessary to make positive decisions about tobacco, alcohol, drugs and other critical issues facing today’s youth while developing positive, stable and continuing relationships with the teachers.   Parents are afforded parenting skills classes, informational meetings, and materials to encourage involvement in their child’s learning, in our program goals, and the school as a whole.  Pro-social skills such as self-esteem, responsibility, conflict resolution, anger management, drug and alcohol abuse resistance and violence prevention are addressed through this valuable program. Second Step & Al’s Pal’s lessons are used to teach the children healthy habits of thinking and acting, helping them develop positive self-esteem. The Learning Corner P.R.O.M.I.S.E encourages children to become active learners engaged in independent exploration seeking solutions to problems through critical thinking and creative problem solving.
