SCHOOL ASSEMBLIES, DAYS OFF, SKIP DAYS
POLICY 5303
5303.1
In view of the responsibility of the schools to develop in its students excellence in academ-
ics, citizenship and individual development, the importance of school assemblies as part of the
over-all educational system is unquestioned.
5303.2
A variety of programs of educational and cultural significance should be presented to the
students on a regular basis. Scheduling, supervision, and implementation of such programs shall
be the responsibility of the building principal.
5303.3
Days off from school shall not be an approved school observance for such occasions as
achieving exemplary school status, sports championships, etc. It shall be the responsibility of the
building principal, working in conjunction with the school staff and community, to provide appro-
priate activities in recognition of any awards or honors bestowed upon the school. This is necessi-
tated because of the importance of instructional time per day as mandated by the West Virginia
Board of Education.
5303.4
Senior skip days are not sanctioned, condoned or recognized by the Harrison County
Board of Education. Students who participate in these activities will be considered truant and their
absences handled accordingly.
