International Walk to School Month

International Walk to School Month gives children, parents, school teachers and community leaders an opportunity to be part of a global event as they celebrate the many benefits of walking. Walkers from around the world walk to school together for various reasons — all hoping to create communities that are safe places to walk.

Read for REID

Mrs. Reid challenged the students at Simpson Elementary School to read 1,500 books during the summer of 2014 to make her dress like a little Indian.
 Congratulations Little Indians!
 You did it!
On September 23, 2014, Mrs. Reid and parent, Mrs. Marra, presented an educational program on the Eastern Woodlands Indian tribes.  Mrs. Marra and Mrs. Reid were dressing in authentic Shawnee Indian attire.  Mrs. Marra presented a power point presentation that focused on the culture and heritage of the Shawnee Indians.  The program concluded with the students learning and singing an Indian children’s song to the drum beat and rattle of Mrs. Reid and Mrs. Marra.
A very special “THANK YOU” to Mrs. Marra for sharing her heritage and teaching us about our history.

Simpson Elementary School was built in 1909, and was the original Bridgeport High School. It became an elementary school when a new high school was built. A multipurpose room was added and is used as our cafeteria, gymnasium and auditorium. With growth, a new wing was built in 1975, which currently houses our K-2 classrooms and our computer lab. Many renovations have taken place over the years.  The newest addition is  finished and will house 10 new classrooms and a new office complex.
