Mission
The mission of Washington Irving Middle School is to provide a well-organized, structured learning experience designed to meet the unique developmental needs of preadolescent students in grades six, seven and eight. The program is developed by knowledgeable, experienced adults who provide steady guidance and supervision. The adults set good examples for learning, problem solving and decision making. The staff works together to meet the individual differences of each student through diverse teaching strategies, applied arts programs and a flexible organizational pattern.
Goals
To deliver an academic program that results in students who think critically and solve problems.

To stimulate parent involvement by encouraging interaction among school staff, students, and communities.

To provide students with the opportunity to develop physically, socially, and emotionally.
To provide all students with information necessary to develop good health habits.
To provide organized knowledge for transition to high school.
To develop and refine basic skills in communication, reading, math, writing, social studies, science art, music, physical education, and life skills.
To provide an atmosphere conductive to success for the at-risk student.
