Washington Irving Middle School provides the opportunity for students to participate in an array of athletics. While our football team is open to only seventh and eighth grade students, all students can participate in boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, volleyball, wrestling, softball, track, cross-country, danceline, and cheerleading. In additional, our physical education staff hosts numerous intramurals events, such as homeroom basketball, throughout the school year.
The West Virginia Secondary School Athletic Commission governs all requirements and eligibility for participation in sports. All students must maintain a 2.0 grade point average in order to participate. This average must be obtained during the semester proceeding the sporting season.
Students are required to present a birth certificate, completed parental information form, and proof of accident insurance. All students must have a physical in order to practice or participate. Harrison County Schools hosts an annual free physical event each year.
